Day 287 ~ My New Year's Eve...

I was preparing to sit down and write my post... which means that I start to think about my day... contemplate what I want to write about... what's important... what makes sense... THEN I checked to see what time it was and saw it was 11:30pm.  All of a sudden I felt this excitement, anticipation... It's as if it was New Year's Eve.

You know, if you think about it I am entering a new year... therefore it being the eve of my birthday, it would then be the eve of a new year... therefore... HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ME!!  LOL!  Any excuse to celebrate...

which brings me to...

I was catching my hubby up with the week in review of my blog and told him we we're at the end of the seven day hot zone!  Huh? he questioned... and I explained to him that week before your birthday, you celebrate each weekday as it comes as the last Monday that I will ever be 48... the last Tuesday I will ever be 48... etc...  and you know what he said to me?  Sounds to me as if you are making excuses to party.  HAHAHA...   OH MY G!

WOW!! IS it that obvious?  Let's just say that now that I stop and really think about it... I never have had a problem in finding a reason to celebrate.  So, I guess Dean is right.  Shhh.. don't tell him though.. just kidding...   Is there anything wrong in wanting to celebrate a special occasion?  I love throwing parties, coordinating functions, down to the finishing touches.  I also love setting the stage to a special celebration.

You should have seen my first baby's first birthday party!!  We had beer and wine for all of Addison's aunts and uncles (who were all over 21).. a clown for the kids, balloons, party favors for all, with games and tricks included... (let's not forget that almost everyone in the 80s worked out and took step and aerobics' classes) we served salads, sandwiches, and some pretty fancy appetizers... (now tell me if he appreciates twenty-three years later that we spent close to $2,500 on his first birthday party?) ...  all in all, let's just say that I know how to throw a party!

I know that I have been a little of a stick in the mud lately... please understand that I have been experiencing all sorts of emotions, all sorts of thought provoking moments, leading up to this day.

I want you to understand...  I anticipated my twenties... I laughed at my thirties... and arose to my forties... HOWEVER...

... when Calley was born, everything changed.  My mortality became an issue.

I was 43 when Calley was born, and ever since I have been concerned about being around for her as long as God allows me to (hopefully that is a long, long time)... I don't want to miss her first date... her prom... her first boyfriend... college... marriage... kids... life... I don't want to miss a minute of her life!

(Spoken in an east-coast accent) Okay... I'll give it to you... I've been quite the stick in the mud lately!  But with good reason... however, I do not want to be a stick in the mud anymore!

The last few days of my so called seven day hot zone, or as Dean referred to it as "my reason to party"...  I say it's my reason to celebrate!!  Funny, why do I pull towards using "celebrate" rather than "party" ?  LOL! ...  to be exact...

Three days ago I may have accepted my 49th birthday, which inevitably now leads to my BIG 5-0... HOWEVER forty minutes ago I embraced my NEW YEAR!

... and the NEW count down to my BIG 5-0 BEGINS!!

Day 284 ~ Bring It On!!

I have decided to take the bull by its horns!!  That's It!!  Man... I am so tired of this slump, that now it's time for some serious a$$ kicking!

Even though the countdown is running down to turning 49, I am not going to let that stop me from enjoying what is left of 48!!

I have to share with you... for as long as I can remember, when it came close to my birthday, inside the seven day hot zone, I would start celebrating the last days of that year!  I can still remember celebrating the last Friday before turning sixteen, and so many other "last Fridays" too!  No matter what day your birthday lands on, you will always have a last Friday to celebrate!

The "seven day hot zone" is the last week you are any particular age.  Why do I call it that? I have no clue... maybe because it sounded cool.  Really, who cares.. it gave me a reason to go out an celebrate longer!  wink, wink.

I have always loved birthdays, and still do.  I feel that someone's birthday is their special day.  The day that the rest of us were blessed with having this person become a part of our lives, a part of our world.

As a child, we always celebrated birthdays.  Everyone's birthday.  I loved it then, and love it even more now... as long as it isn't mine!  hahaha!   Alright, alright... I love celebrating, just not the aging part.

Seriously now, birthdays are my thing.  Once I find out when your birthday is, that's it!  Written down in my calendar, or rather entered in my phone.  After that, I will always remember you on your day and will let you know too.

So why have I been a pill lately?  For someone that has NEVER had an issue aging, I have made up for it this past week!  I mean HOLY COW!!  Get over it already!!  I mean, seriously!  What's going to happen twenty years from now?  I'll probably be wishing I was turning 50 again!  LOL!!

Therefore, I will not fight it anymore.  I will look upon myself as a fine wine.  wink.  I will only get better with time!!  Even though, I didn't celebrate "my last" Thursday, Friday and Saturday like in years gone by, my last Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of the seven day hot zone will make up for it!
A comfortable old age is the reward of a well-spent youth.  Instead of its bringing sad and melancholy prospects of decay, it would give us hopes of eternal youth in a better world.   ~Maurice Chevalier
Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter.  ~Mark Twain
Old age is no place for sissies.   ~Bette Davis
One last note...  I must say that it is great timing too!  What a day for this to happen... my blog reached 20,000+ views today!!!  WOW!  Very cool.  So humbling.

Blessings to all!!

Day 137 ~ Praying For Shelly

Praying for Shelly
Tues.  Oct 24th
Just as there is happiness in life, there is sorrow too.

A friend of mine will be going into surgery on Tuesday.  The surgeons will be removing a "benign" tumor that is resting on an auditory nerve.  As would be expected, there are a few risks, one of which she may end up with permanent hearing loss in the one ear... and another being that there may be partial face paralysis [on the same side.]

I do not know that she would like to be mentioned in my blog, so I will only mention a first name...

I am asking for your prayers for Shelly on Tuesday.  Her surgery will be anywhere from 6 to 8 hours, it could even go longer.  Her sister and I will be fasting on Tuesday, the same day in her honor.

On a happier note... Today was a day for spending time with family and friends... I especially love it when "the day" comes around [each year] that we get to celebrate the day one of us was blessed upon our family.   Today we celebrated the birthdays of Calley, her 5th, Dominic (my cousin,) his 18th  and Dean's 46th !

Funny... I was just thinking... [no funny comments now...] (wink wink)... each one of them are entering what seems to be such different stages of life, however as different as they are~ they are alike.  Meaning, that each of them are about to experience very special times in their lives.  How exciting for each one of them!

Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.  For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.    ~ Matthew 7:7-8

 Blessings to all!!
