Day 246 ~ The 60s & Me

Having been born in the early 1960s, most of my memories of the decade are as a little girl.  But... there is a lot I do remember... some from personal recollection... some stories... and other memories are from photographs and collectibles.  

I do remember my family being gathered around the television the day we landed on the moon... as I also remember the aftermath of what the 60s left behind.

I remember my mother and aunts speaking of Twiggy, which in my opinion needed to put on some healthy weight.  I personally think that Twiggy was the beginning to the end of the voluptuous women's curves.  As time would go on to prove, that curves such as those of Marilyn Monroe's were then looked upon as being too curvy or overweight.  

I still don't get that one!  As far as I'm concerned, Marilyn's curves beat out Twiggy's straight boxy lines any day! 

Here are some other things I remember from the 60s...

Andy Warhol;  Grateful Dead;  Jimi Hendrix;  Gunsmoke;  Star Trek (first inter-racial kiss on tv 1968);  The Beattles;  John F. Kennedy;  Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy; Bewitched;  Vietnam;  Diana Ross;  Tang;  Moon Landing;  JFK Assassination;  MLK Assassination;  Woodstock;  Free Love;  Hippies;  Peace    

After a little look see I also found out that the 60s brought us Benihana, Kentucky Fried Chicken, color in the kitchen (the wonderful avocado green) and futuristic designs in the home, as well as Shrimp Scampi (which is actually translates to 'Shrimp Shrimp'  lol!), the luxury of flying and the Boeing 747!

By the time the end of 1969 came around, I was a mere six and a half years old, had a sister three years younger, and a little brother who arrived near the end of 1969.  Life was so simple.  Mom and dad took care of everything.  Life was great.


The 60s also brought entertaining in the home, and that my parents did a lot.  I also remember that anytime company would come visit from overseas the Playboy Club and Las Vegas were the places to go.  All the adults would go... children would get babysitters. Maybe they should have gone to church a little more.  wink, wink.

Day 109 ~ Stepping Back In Time

I love the fact that by simply putting in a DVD into the player, or even watching an era based series on t.v., one can go back in time and relive an era from long ago.  I especially enjoy the "history"  it all ~  the end of the 1950s through the first half of the 1960s was an amazing time not only for the United States, but to Americans themselves.


From the time Elvis and the Beatles first showed their faces on the Ed Sullivan Show, to the assassination of who some may consider one our nation's greatest presidents, John F. Kennedy,  This was an innocent era which not only ended on a sad note, who's soldiers were for the most part "stoned" for their participation in the war in Viet Nam...


Just as they say life changes us, well The United States has never been the same since.


There are so many things I like about that era, however I am happy to say that I was merely three years old by the time all of this was going on... but not to say that it would have been cool to have experienced some of the era as an adult... instead through the eyes of a just.  Just to have been able to seen the Rat Pack... wow!!  the history behind this era is amazing!!
