Day 332~ Feliz Cinco de Mayo ;)

Out of the blue I mentioned to my husband that today was Cinco de Mayo.  Immediately my husband responded, "You know most Mexicans do not celebrate Cinco de Mayo..."

I chuckled and responded, "That's right.  And it's the only day out of the year that most of us will claim to be Mexican to celebrate it!:  "Do we have any Tequila?"

Hahaha... I'm still laughing at that one!

Cinco de Mayo—or the fifth of May—commemorates the Mexican army's 1862 victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War (1861-1867). A relatively minor holiday in Mexico, in the United States Cinco de Mayo has evolved into a celebration of Mexican culture and heritage, particularly in areas with large Mexican-American populations. Cinco de Mayo traditions include parades, mariachi music performances and street festivals in cities and towns across Mexico and the United States.

Where I live on Cinco de Mayo the grocery stores run fabulous specials on chips, salsa and other Mexican ingredients. I'm not sure about whether in Mexico they celebrate it, but in Los Angeles it's a very big deal among the Hispanic community.
