Day 472 ~ Here's to Saturdays!!

Ahhhh.... Saturday.

Everyone always makes a big deal about Friday.

Happy Friday!

Thank God It's Friday! ... T.G.I.F.!

Friday night football. ... e t c ...

In my opinion Saturday doesn't get enough attention, enough hoorahs.

Although my reasons that "Saturday" is just as great as "Friday" may be more personal and reminiscent, I would find it strange if you didn't have similar fondness yourself.

Funny...  it wasn't until Calley started kindergarten that I started to long for my Saturdays as I did yesteryear.  I am once again getting up much earlier than I would prefer to, 5:30 ugh! I have not done that in a very long time.  So just as days gone by, I once again long to sleep in come Saturday.

Once upon a time Saturday morning was all about cartoons and kid's shows.  Yet with today's satellite and cable channels and children being able to find cartoons anytime of the day... well it's not the same.  Not from my perspective anyways.

Saturday morning tv was the best as a kid!!  And what's best is that I am able to pass that same experience onto Calley.  Between being busy, homework and having to go to bed by 7:30p each night for school, she doesn't have any time for tv during the week... and now she too gets to experience that Saturday morning joy.

What I loved best as a tween and teenager was American Bandstand... each week we had an hour of great new music and some pretty cool dancing.  We would watch and dance at the same time, learning new moves  This is where we perfected our new moves.  In high school I had some friends that were regular dancers on the show.

On immediately after Bandstand was Soul Train... continuing the fun, the dancing, and a lot of "soul" for another hour.  This is where we really got our groove on!! Big smile!!

As I grew older, Saturdays became more than just cartoons, kid's shows and dancing... as the day unfolded itself, I would look forward to seeing the big star of the week hosting that night on Saturday Night Live.  As I look back on SNL, I think that it's really cool that I was able to experience the original cast.  What talent!!  Laraine Newman, John Belushi, Jane Curtin, Gilda Radner, Garrett Morris, Chevy Chase, Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd.  I know I'm dating myself, but that's okay because I love the era I grew up in and experienced.

Finally... there's also Saturday morning sports, bar-be-ques, birthday parties and once in a while a wedding or two.

So here's to Saturday!  Thanks for starting off the weekend on the right foot and giving us all the opportunity of enjoying our lives, families and friends!

Here's to your Saturday memories!  Past, present and future.
It's... Saturday... Night... Live!  ~quoted by many since 1975

Peace...

I love Saturdays too! Much better than Fridays because there is no school or work.

And when I was a kiddo there were no cartoons running 24/7, so Saturday morning cartoons were a biiiiiiig deal. Especially the back-to-back Flintstones/Jetsons episodes. :)

I'm with you! I love Saturdays. Fridays you still have to get up early and deal with all of the end of the week stuff. Saturday, there is the possibility of being completely free. My hubby and I were just talking about how cartoons only used to come on Saturday mornings. Our kids get up and lounge around on Saturdays and watch TV. I hope you enjoy your Saturday! For me, it means watching my 'Noles on TV!! Woo Hoo!

Yay for Saturday! It is my favorite day of the week. Sleep in, stay up late because there is no work or school tomorrow. I agree- people do not give Saturday enough credit!

I like Saturdays because I dont have to pack lunches, look over homework, make sure the kiddies dont miss the bus. I can relax, bake, clean whatever on Saturday!

I miss those days-- I used to LOVE Saturday morning cartoons and tv time... Now though however, we are extremely busy on Saturadays with baseball, basketball, football games( the fact that I have 3 boys and I'm married to a coach-- makes my Saturdays just like any other day. I pray one day that it will get back to the normal relaxing day :)

I have always loved Saturdays best! All day Sunday I feel the pressure of Monday coming up, so I can't really enjoy myself. My brother and I used to watch Saturday morning cartoons back in the '80s--Smurfs, Godzilla, Scooby Doo, you name it. I miss those days sometimes!
